SAG[a] Enduring
SAG-AFTRA and the WGA (actors' and writers' unions) have made the tough decision to strike against the AMPTP (movie studios, big streaming corporations, etc.)
In part 1 of (at least) 2 exploring the actors’ and writers’ strikes, I talked to SAG member Marie Cecile Anderson, an actor, comedian, and musician based in Nashville.
Marie joins tens of thousands of her show business colleagues striking for fair streaming compensation (i.e., a living wage) and transparent contract terms for studios using their AI-generated replicas. Together, union members are facing a massive loss of work and income to advocate for their rights. The corporate studios and streaming services making up the AMPTP, on the other hand, have made their billions on billions of dollars on these union members’ backs/talents, (could certainly be replaced by AI themselves, for what it’s worth), and yet refuse to even negotiate. Cool!! Def landing on the right side of history, gents!
But that’s the short version. This issue is really better covered by the members themselves, so I’m including the video and audio versions of my chat with Marie here^
Next time, I'll be sharing my convo with a costumer-- she's a member of two IATSE local unions in Hollywood, neither of which are on the same contract / strike timeline as SAG-AFTRA and the WGA, but obviously... work is scarce and conditions are dire for her corner of the industry, too. That's the REAL trickle-down economics, baby!
Love u, be nice to everyone except corporate bigblockheads (unless they’re paying you handsomely in a sugar daddy/baby arrangement I guess), and enjoy every sandwich! xx
